My mother was fourth generation Irish. Her great grandparents emigrated from Ireland, in the early eighteen hundreds. My father emigrated from Fife, Scotland in 1929, at the age of nineteen, with his parents and six siblings. Both my parents came from large families; in my father's family there were eleven children and in my mother's family, there were eight siblings.
I am knowledgeable of my family on both sides for one hundred and fifty years and there is no history of any ataxia. It is mostly for this reason that the doctors say that my ataxia is sporadic or idiopathic.
